History
The September Birthday Ministry was organized in November 1981, with twelve members under the leadership of Brother William Claytor. Our organization has been active since that time. We owe a special "Thanks" to Sister Evelyn Williams who became President after Brother Claytor. Sister Williams remained president for eight consecutive years.
Other past presidents were Sister Dorothy Rowlette, Sister Ellen Douglas, Brother Douglas Garrett, and Sister Patsy Woods, Sister Susan McLaughlin, Sharon Everett Hardin, Ruthelle Stafford, and our current President is Brenda Baskerville. On Sunday, September 25, 1982, we initiated our first annual "worship together" fellowship at the 11:15 a.m. service. Since that time, we continue to worship together on the 3rd Sunday in September. We also plan three annual activities each year.
Mission Statement
The September Birthday Ministry is to establish a close spiritual bond between members. Mirroring the love of Christ, the ministry strives to facilitate the social and spiritual needs of its members and the community. In doing so, the ministry participates in shared work projects by combining God given passions and talent (e.g. mission projects, senior and youth outreach, evangelism, discipleship, pastoral and church anniversaries, worship and prayer services). The ministry members join together in regular fellowship building an endearing assembly of mutual physical and spiritual support in achieveing a closer relationship with Christ.
Services and Activities
The September Birthday Ministry is involved in many church activities both as a group and individually. To name a few: each year the ministry sponsors two AWANA youths to attend summer camp, financialy support the Prince George's Christian Academy, purchase gifts to present to Christmas Angel Tree recipients support the Missionary Ministry, support other ministries and organizations, and support and comfort our sick and bereaved members. Finally, the September Ministry enjoys annual birthday celebrations, other Christian fellowship and planned educational and spiritual excursions.
